• mt. pilchuck - july 10
there has been so much snow this year and with the cooler than normal spring it has held fast to the cascades so far, but it looks like summer may finally have arrived. pilchuck is a short trip, perfect for semi-invalids like carrie and... more |

• sauk mountain - july 4
this is indeed a late summer season in the cascades. we went to sauk mountain today expecting, as would be pretty typical for the 4th of july, a nice trail at least to the ridge with consolidated snow from there to the summit. instead, we... more |

• mt baldy - easton - May 7
this mountaineers scramble was originally supposed to go to lennox mountain, but weather was forecast to be poor and it was hoped that going a little further east, we'd get better conditions.

• ancient and dusty lakes - april 9 - 10
great early season trip to the dry side of the state. maybe a little early for the best flower display we none the less had good weather, few bugs and even some very well behaved boy scouts camped nearby. no fish were harmed in the course of the trip.

• east tiger mountain - march 29
this was the first time i had been to any of the issaquah alps locations... cougar, rattlesnake or tiger mtn's. right off i-90 and close to seattle, the trails here are great for conditioning but I expected short on asthetics and solitude. of course the asthetics took care of themselves as I was the only guy out of 6 on the hike and the rain guaranteed we'd not run into a lot of others.

• tatie peak - grasshopper pass - september 24-26
i can honestly say that in addition to wonderful views of the north cascades and pasayten peaks there really are grasshoppers to be found at grasshopper pass. not much water at this time of year, but if you know... more |

• mount roosevelt - snow and gem lakes - september 11
the solid brass tube tucked securely between the rocks on the summit held a register placed by the mountaineers in 1993. All the pages of the classic style flip open tablet with rough manila paper and... more |

• guye peak, snoqualmie mtn and cave ridge - september 5
it's been five years since i was on snoqualmie last and i've tried and failed twice before on the mighty guye. turns out that while i'm making progress in my guye quest (hmm, might want to rephrase that) i... more |

• bryant peak - august 29
likely the most challenging part of this scramble was retrieving my trekking pole from the forested bank of denny creek, not a quarter mile from the car on my return.... more |
